Ilmiliekki Quartet with Emma Salokoski
It’s always nice to do something else for a change. And prompted by her suggestion, Ilmiliekki decided to do a project with Emma Salokoski, a Finnish singer. Emma was asked to make new versions of some Swedish traditional songs and so she asked Ilmiliekki Quartet to conduct the project with her. The project first begun as only a short four song TV-recording but shortly thereafter Emma and Ilmiliekki were asked to play a full concert at Viapori Jazz-festival. The concert was a success and more gigs derived from it. The project still lives on and perhaps there will be an album in the future.
Ilmiliekki Quartets meets Meta4
Meta4 is one of the most respected chamber string quartets in Finland. Although currently based in Berlin, Meta4 is very active in Finland too. Ilmiliekki Quartet and Meta4 played their debut concert together on February 1st, 2006 on SIBAfest, Sibelius Academy’s festival in Helsinki. The music for the project was composed by Ilmiliekki’s Verneri Pohjola, Tuomo Prättälä and Olavi Louhivuori. This collaboration between the two quartets also gathered a lot of interest from festivals and there are to be more concerts.
